MAXAIR's booth was continuously visited by Infection Preventionists interested in learning about a more affordable respiratory protection program, replacing annual 'N95' fit testing at their facility.

Additionally, MAXAIR demonstrated its superior protection compared to N95 face masks as well as the costs associated with fit-testing, potentially saving hospitals thousands of dollars annually.

October 9, 2011, Irvine, CA - MAXAIR® Systems is pleased to announce its appearance in Steven Soderbergh’s newest global pandemic-thriller, Contagion, a movie about the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus. Many have said this is one of the most realistic movies made to date about a pandemic threat.

The MAXAIR Powered air Purifying Respirators (PAPRs), which appear in the movie, provide respiratory protection against airborne (aerosol and droplet) and particulates. Contagion has gone on to infect moviegoers enough to catch a top spot at the box office, which took in over $65M domestically and $72M worldwide in the first month.  There are eight actors in its cast who’ve been nominated by the Academy: Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, John Hawkes, Elliott Gould, Jude Law, and Laurence Fishburne.

As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure, finding it difficult to control the panic as it spreads faster than the virus itself.  At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart. This movie touches on a variety of themes, from the factors driving mass panic to the responsibilities and consequences of public health response.

When asked about the movie, Vincent Gonzalez, Director of Sales said “Soderbergh's creative team really liked the wide-angle view of the faces of the actors wearing them.“

If you haven’t seen Contagion yet, you should. It’s exciting, thought-provoking, and largely accurate. The good news behind the Contagion story could be the increased awareness of the work done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), whose professionals are keeping us safe as well as the need for pandemic response and emergency preparedness.
